At West Heath Primary, School Sport forms a fundamental part of our enrichment offer. We recognise the power sport plays enhancing the social, emotional, physical and mental capacity of our pupils. The opportunities we create for our pupils are designed to inspire and motivate. We want pupils to realise that effort and application leads to progress. Inter school competition, festival, and events.
West Heath Primary School work closely with local, regional and national partners. This provides our children and children within local partnership schools the opportunities to take part in sports, festivals and competition. We are part of the Kings Norton District Sports Partnership, which is a partnership of over 20 affiliated schools in the South Birmingham area. West Heath Primary School play a major role in the planning, preparation, and delivery of sporting events in the local area. These events positively impact levels of pupil participation in variety of school sports and physical activities. This partnership provides pupils of all abilities from differing backgrounds the opportunity to represent their school.
In addition to our involvement with the Kings Norton District Sport Partnership we also play an active role in the School Games Program. West Heath Primary School has achieved a Platinum School Games Mark for 2023-2025 demonstrating our commitment to the School Games program. We attend all enrichment events, festivals and workshops to positively benefits our pupils.
West Heath Primary School have established strong links with local community providers (Kings Norton Tennis Club, Kings Norton Rhinos Rugby, Five Ways Cricket Club), professional clubs (City of Birmingham Rockets, Birmingham City Football Club, Warwickshire County Cricket Club) and regional partners (Sport Birmingham). All of who have extended our intra school offer exposing our pupils to a variety of sports and opportunities
Intra school competitions, festivals and events.
West Heath Primary schools run intra school competitions and festivals giving pupil the opportunity to play and compete against other pupils in our school. Intra school events enrich our curriculum offer and expose to pupils to wider range of sporting opportunities. Our annual Sports Week means all pupils at West Heath Primary get the opportunity to take part in intra school competition.
Extra Curricular
Our extra-curricular provision is outstanding. Teachers support our extra curricula and co-curricular programs to enhance our curriculum offer. Teachers deliver clubs relative to their personal passions, skill set and interests. We use pupil voice to shape our extra-curricular program ensuring the needs of our pupils are met. External provider and teachers contribute positively to our extra-curricular provision. We have a range of physical activity and sporting opportunities available throughout the week for pupils to sign up for and take part in. Our Extra curricular clubs are very well attended.
Trip and Visits
To develop the social and cultural capital of our pupils we attend a range of sporting events throughout the academic year. These includes trips to local and national sporting events e.g. Yonex Badminton championships, Wimbledon, City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball, Aegon Classics, Commonwealth Games Legacy events. In addition, the trips we attend we welcome visitors to our school to enrich the opportunities available to our pupils. This includes visits from local and national partners e.g. the Royal Ballet, Nike’s outstanding teacher program, Commonwealth Ambassadors. Partnerships, trips and visits have been able to upskill our staff and provide CPD opportunities making links between PE and the wider curriculum.
Community Programmes
West Heath Primary School are committed to establishing meaningful links between school and the wider community. We aim to open our school facilities creating safe space for pupils to engage is sport and physical activity beyond the school day. We also aim to work with parents and careers to highlight the benefits of leading a physically active, happy, healthy lifestyle. We are working hard to build links between West Heath Primary School and the local community.
